Saturday, April 6, 2024, trail volunteers will gather to prepare the Appalachian Trail in Eastern Pennsylvania for hiking season. Volunteers will remove blow downs, clean out water bars and other structures that divert water from the trail, and trim back woody bushes encroaching on the on trail. Additional projects along the trail will be added as needed. There is an opportunity for everyone to contribute regardless of experience. Historically, volunteers are typically able to clear between 2/3and 3/4 of the club's section of trail during the “Spring Cleaning”, giving us a head start on completely clearing the trail for hiking season. But we can't do it without volunteers. Volunteers will be broken into groups and sent to areas identified as needing help by our section maintainers. If you are free to volunteer for the trail on Saturday, April 6th, reach out to David Bailey at dbailey@bmecc.org by Monday, April 1st. Once we hear from you will be matched to an appropriate group and emailed a meeting location, start time, and a list of tools to bring with you.
Volunteers should wear sturdy boots or shoes, have clothing appropriate for the weather, lunch, and fluids or his or her choice to hydrate.
Rain date is Saturday April 13, 2024.
