Join the Berks County Falls Free Coalition on National Fall Prevention Day on Sept 22nd from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm at Alvernia University at The Tom and Helen Flynn PLEX (465 Saint Bernardine Street, Reading, Pa 19607) The event will begin with opening remarks from Judy Schwank and Robert Torres, Secretary of Aging. In addition, a fall prevention panel featuring; Reading Hospital Trauma Center, Reading Hospital Emergency Department, Reading Hospital Rehabilitation, PA Department of Aging, and Alvernia University will discuss ways to prevent falls. Several agencies will be providing screenings and resource tables such as blood pressure, balance, strength, hearing, and vision.
Volunteers will be needed throughout various shifts.
6 volunteers are needed for registration (waivers, temperature check, iPad check in) 7:30am - 9am
12 volunteers are needed to direct patients to their assigned location 7:30am - 9:00am
5 volunteers are needed to help with refreshments and event clean-up 12:30 - 1:30pm
COVID19 Disclaimer:
Alvernia volunteers are required to wear masks while indoors and riding university transportation. Volunteers are required to follow social distancing guidelines to the best of the organization’s ability for the duration of each service event.
Vaccinated volunteers are not required to wear masks while serving outdoors UNLESS the hosting organization requests this.
Unvaccinated volunteers are required to wear a mask and remain 6 ft. apart at all times.
