Each year, the Alvernia community comes together to support local parks, trails, and neighborhoods through hands-on environmental stewardship on Earth Day of Service. This year, students, faculty, and staff will volunteer across Berks County in celebrating Earth Day through meaningful service projects focused on cleanups and community environmental revitalization at Grings Mill and City Park. To help make check-in smooth, please complete this volunteer waiver before arriving.

- Date: Saturday, April 18, 2026
- Time: 9 AM – 1:00 PM (but get 5 hours of service!)
- Location: Various off-campus service sites (assigned after registration)
- Perks: Free volunteer t-shirt and transportation provided!
Schedule
- 8:00-8:35 AM: volunteer check-in
- 8:50 AM: shuttle departure to service sites
- 9:00 AM-11:45 PM: service activity at assigned site
- 12:00 PM: lunch
- 1:00 PM: shuttle departure back to Alvernia
Important Notes
Service will take place outdoors, including trail work, community cleanups, gardening, trail revitalization, and similar projects. Please wear clothing and footwear appropriate for outdoor work and gardening activity.
Volunteers will take part in a variety of hands-on projects that support local parks, trails, and neighborhoods. Depending on your assignment, you may be helping with litter cleanup, light landscaping, trail maintenance, or general beautification tasks alongside our community partners. We encourage you to arrive ready to be outdoors, work as a team, and contribute to a cleaner, healthier community.
Please remember: Our community partners rely on Alvernia and trust that our students will show up when they commit to a volunteer opportunity. Community organizations plan their day around the volunteers who are scheduled and often assign staff, prepare materials, and adjust their workflow to support the service project. When volunteers do not arrive, it can create challenges for our partners and limit the impact we are able to make together. If you are no longer able to participate, please unregister from Get Connected as soon as possible.
