- Helping dial the phone
- Obtaining a blanket for warmth, pillow for comfort
- Getting a glass of water or ice (if OK with nurse)
- Helping order a food tray with Room Service
- Supplying water/coffee to family members
- Having general conversations with patients to help take their mind off their reason for being in the hospital.
- Reading to patients
- Playing cards or doing activities with patients
- Alerting the staff of medical needs
- Closing the door for quiet
- Closing the curtain for privacy
- Answering phones
- Opening doors
- Bringing in food trays
- Running errands
- Specimen errands
- May take discharged patients down to the discharge room
- Light clerical duties
Volunteers are required to obtain PA criminal background clearance, child abuse clearance, FBI background clearance.
