We participate in several events at Mount Hope Winery (PA Renaissance Faire).  We need people to help set up our booth and then dismantle the booth at the end of the events.  Dates will vary.  The venue is located at 2775 Lebanon Rd, Manheim, PA 17545.  Set up / loading / unloading trailer takes between an hour and two hours, depending upon # of volunteers.

Do you enjoy fiber arts such as knitting, crocheting, weaving, sewing, or felting? Reading Public Library hosts a bimonthly Fiber Friends class for kids 8-12 years old, and we need assistants to help kids learn and practice fiber arts skills. Classes are held the first and third Mondays of the month.

Help us with painting new remodeled HopeHouse located on 9th Street in Reading.  This group home for guests of Hope Rescue Mission has recently been under construction and we are ready to paint!

Join Nemesis Fitness for our annual Glow Run, a free community, non-competitive 5K run that encourages health, fitness, and fun for all ages. This exciting evening event is part of the Downtown Reading GlowFest, which features music, food, vendors, and glowing activities for the whole community.

We are seeking student volunteers to help make this event a success! Volunteers will assist with:

Event set-up and clean-up

Runner check-in and registration

Guiding participants along the route

Handing out water, glow gear, and giveaways

Engaging with the community and cheering on participants

Meet a team member of Reading City Church at the Wyomissing Farmer's market to collect, count and sort the donated food items at the market location. Once this has been completed, you are on your way! Meet in the Food Court of the Wyomissing Farmer's Market to connect with an RCC volunteer who will show you the ropes. If you sign up for this service oppotunity hour, you MUST TEXT THE SUPERVISOR/CONTACT PERSON to let her know that you will be coming to the site.

Join us for an event to remember! ThanksGIVEmas Festival is a day for the kids about the kids. We will be hosting an array of activities for kids such as moon bounces, obstacle course, petting zoo, carnival games, inflatable games, food trucks, raffles, and more. Every dollar goes directly to toys for Toys for Tots!

Volunteers will be helping with crafts, games, food, parking, and customer service with attendees.

Volunteers will be needed the entire day 9am to 5pm, if you are not available the entire day please specify. There is a 2 hour minimum for volunteers. All volunteers attending all day will have a 30 minute lunch break.

Volunteer at Reading Theater Project's production of Proud by local playwright Judd Lear Silverman. 

Volunteers will welcome and check in patrons, serve concessions, help maintain the theater lobby, and clean up after each show.

Join the Berks Coalition to End Homelessness for a Solidarity Walk to raise awareness about the challenges youth experiencing homelessness face, especially when it comes to transportation.

Volunteers are needed to assist with event setup, support during the walk, and cleanup. This is a great opportunity to stand in solidarity with our community and support an important cause.

Dress Code: Casual and weather-appropriate. Walking will be expected. Please wear comfortable clothing such as sweatpants, leggings, and sneakers. Tank tops and sandals are not permitted.

Volunteer at CONCERN's first ever craft show.  Help with set up (5:30 am - 9:30 am), sell raffle tickets, help children with letters to Santa/Holiday cards, work in the kitchen, greet people. help as needed to make this event successful to raise money for kids in foster care. (Shifts are 9-12 and 12-3).

Clean up volunteers are also needed from 3 pm - 4:30 pm 

If you are interested in face painting, doing fairy hair, or other activities for children, this is a great opportunity too.

The Reading Public Museum is looking for volunteers to help us clean-up and prepare the arboretum for winter - including raking leaves and pulling invasives. Please bring gloves (garden or regular) and a rake if you have one! (If you don't we have plenty to go around!) Program led our Arboretum Manager, Committee, and Master Gardeners.

This event will be hosted at Alvernia University. We are looking for Volunteers ages 5+ and up to help assemble and prepare 400 bags.

Reading City Church hosts the families who attend the West Reading Tree lighting to "Cookies and Milk & Pictures with Santa" after the tree lighting.  Come and greet people, help serve cookies, clean up tables or be an elf!

Prepare and drop off or serve a meal for the clients of Opportunity House.  We serve 3 meals a day 7 days a week.  The need is great and we can use help with every one of them! 

 You can either serve or drop off a meal at our shelter or come in and serve.  

Meal times are as follows:

 Lunch: served at 11:30 am every day.

Dinner: served at 7:00 pm every day.

Breakfast: served at 6:00 am during the week (M-F) and at 8:00 am on weekends and holidays.

You can drop off at the Shelter Entrance closest to the train tracks on N. 2nd Street.

Monday through Thursday the children who reside at Hannah's Hope Ministries are in need of activities while their mothers are in program. Activities could include outside play, art, music, reading, or games. 

This can be a one-time opportunity or re-occurring.

Support a hospice patient through friendly visits.  Be a supportive presence by reading, doing a project, singing or possibly just sitting in silent support.  Patient visits may take place in the patient's home or nursing facility.

All volunteers must submit an application and two references, pass a criminal background check, drug test, and TB screening.  Once accepted the volunteer will complete approx. 12 hours of training before visiting with patients.

Description: Restore Volunteering allows you to have fun and make a difference while giving you the flexibility to choose your own schedule. You can work as little as three hours a month or as much as several times a week. Volunteer by yourself or come with a group of friends and co-workers. All volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Wear closed-toe shoes and be prepared to lift at least 25 pounds. We can accommodate groups of up to 15 people for at least a three-hour shift.

Volunteer hours are available Wednesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and
Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.

Bilingual Spanish tutors are needed for RYI after school programming through RCSP!

At RCSP you will have the opportunity to tutor and connect with Reading High School students (grades 9-12) to help with homework, improve academic skills, and work on college and career readiness. 

Location is at Reading High School (Career Center), Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 pm-4:30pm.

The Reading Science Center is a hands on children's Science Museum who promotes a love of all things STEM in the Greater Reading Area. Volunteers will assist and monitor guests as they explore and interact with the exhibits in the center.

The Ready.Set.READ! programs focus on improving literacy skills for children from birth through third grade run by the United Way. Click here to learn about each program.

We are recruiting tutors for the Star Readers program, in which volunteers tutor 1st and 2nd grade students one-on-one, to improve their reading skills by 3rd grade. We provide the tutor training and a student does not have to be in an education program to participate. 

Tutoring is one hour per week, and we understand that schedules can change each semester. We're currently looking for tutors in the following school districts: Antietam, Brandywine Heights, Hamburg, Kutztown Area, Oley Valley, Reading, and Schuylkill Valley.

The League needs Volunteers to join and / or lead the Budget Review Process for LWV Berks County.

I already put together a budget and it can be compared to last year’s budget and actual info.

Final step of the process is to present the budget at the LWVBC Annual Meeting.
This meeting takes place on May 11th at 6pm. Not sure yet if in-person or virtual.

Anyone with some basic math skills can help with or lead this activity.

A Program Volunteer must be at least 14 years old and is required to attend a training class before volunteering for lessons. Training classes generally take place once a month beginning in March and continuing until the end of October, see our Application here!. There is a $30 Registration Fee which includes the cost of the training and provides the volunteer with a SHAR Volunteer  T-Shirt. Lessons take place every other week. A calendar of lesson dates and times is always available on our volunteer app.

A Program Volunteer is able to volunteer for Assisted Lessons, Beginner Lessons, Camps, Transitional Lessons and all events for SHAR.   If for any reason a volunteer is unable to pay the Registration Fee, please inform a staff member and accommodation will be made.

Riding Incentive: 
All  Program Volunteers are eligible for a discounted riding lesson at SHAR.  Volunteers must accumulate 40 hours of volunteering prior to lesson.  Lessons are available at the instructors rate, between $10-14, there is no charge for facility or horse.   There is a 200 lb. weight limit for all riders at SHAR. Lessons can be arranged by directly contacting the Instructor of choice or through the Program Director or Volunteer Coordinator.

All volunteers 18 years of age or older are required to submit a copy of the PA Child Abuse Clearance and Criminal Background Check at time of training.

A Non-Program Volunteer is a volunteer who is interested in farm work, barn and stable maintenance, landscaping, gardening, and fundraising events.  (There is no age requirement for Non-Program Volunteers, however children under 14 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.) SHAR is a 90 acre farm with, at times 24 horses to take care of. There are many daily chores such as stall cleaning, paper shredding and manure pick up that require help. Throughout the year there are always fences to be repaired, tree pruning and wood cutting to be done. A Registration Form is to be completed before volunteering can begin; however, there is no registration fee for Non-Program Volunteers.

Individuals seeking community service hours for graduation are welcome to contact us for volunteering. Court appointed community service hours can only be fulfilled through Non-Program Volunteering

Every Second Wednesday the LGBT Center of Greater Reading hosts Warm Meal Wednesday at the LGBT Center to help feed those in need in Reading. The LGBT Center is looking for your help in helping to feed those in need!

The LGBT Center works to reach everyone in our community. Community members meeting center staff and volunteers is a significant way for the center to find more people to aid with our programs. May is National Foster Care Month. In order to create awareness and generate interest in foster parenting, we would like to hang our flyers at public locations such as grocery stores and coffee shops. 

The volunteer would be provided posters and materials to hang those posters.  The volunteer can choose the area where they frequent and hang the posters.  The volunteer would just provide information on the general location for internal tracking.   

The volunteer can choose how many posters they would like to hang and how much time they would want to devote to the project.  We appreciate the community helping to get the word out about what our program is doing and to create awareness about the need for foster families.

• Primary responsibility would be Patient Discharges. This process involves transporting patients by wheelchair from inpatient units to several discharge areas in the hospital: 5th Ave Lobby, R Ground Patient Lounge, N1 Discharge Area, NLL Discharge area, D Lobby Discharge Area (Surgi Valet) area and, occasionally, E and C Lobby areas.

• Assist Transport staff with transports that require more than one transporter because of the transport vehicle (bed, bariatric bed, etc.) or because there are patient belongings to accompany patient. Volunteers will be asked to assist with the actual transport, but are not permitted to assist nursing or transport staff with the “hands on” process of moving patients from bed to stretcher, etc.

• May also be asked to assist with “staging” transport equipment (wheelchairs, stretchers) by delivering this equipment to various areas in the hospital. This would also include occasionally taking calls to pick up or deliver beds, stretchers and wheelchairs from various areas of the hospital.

Volunteers should be:

• Able to push patients on wheelchairs and assist Transporters with transporting patients on beds.

• Able to be on your feet and walking most of work time.

-          Escort patients and guests from the lobby to the necessary hospital location.

-          If a patient appears to need a wheelchair, offer them one.

-          Be cordial and friendly to all guests as you take them to their destination.

-          When returning to the lobby, assist any guest that are in the hallway that appear to need help getting to their destination.

-          Work with the security guard to determine which guests need assistance.

We are seeking student volunteers to serve as role models, motivators, and academic support for the children in our Mentoring Program and Summer Bridge camps.

Our after-school programs help bridge the gap for students who are learning English as a second language and/or are impacted by low-income restrictions. We are always seeking ways to educate, engage, and entertain our students so that they feel empowered to achieve their academic and extracurricular goals.

Wear Share is an on-campus program through the Office of Institutional Sustainability and the Sustainability Ambassador Program that seeks to connect members of the Alvernia community (students, faculty, and staff) and those experiencing homelessness to free, gently used everyday wear. 

Volunteers will be tasked with clothing collecting, sorting clothing, and general maintenance of the space. It will be run on a volunteer-based availability schedule. We are located on the second floor of the Penn Medicine building in NR 55-- enter at the back of the building. Military Veterans are needed to visit with Veteran patients at end-of-life.  Become a supportive visitor, share your common experiences and be an understanding listener.  Veterans can also help with our Vet-to-Vet Cafes at local nursing facilities, and our community outreach programs in support of veterans.  Heartland Hospice is a Level V participant in the national We Honor Veterans program.

Hospice volunteers provide emotional, social, and household support to patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses. Becoming a live-in member of the Exeter Twp. Vol. Fire Department is financially advantageous for students pursuing a postsecondary education. The live-in program offered by the Exeter Twp. Vol. Fire Department provides a financial savings for the student, while enhancing the staffing levels and service provided to the community.

In exchange for free living accommodations, the live-in member will be required to perform station duties, attend training / meetings, and respond to emergency calls. Attendance and dedication to education are a priority and will be taken into consideration if they conflict with station duties.

Berks Encore is seeking student volunteers who play the piano to provide light, live music for seniors at our centers. Your musical gift can brighten someone's day and bring joy to members of our senior community.

This is a meaningful, low-pressure opportunity for students who want to share their talent while earning community service hours and gaining experience performing for a live audience.
